Majdal Shams (in Arabic: Sun Tower), is a Druze village in the Golan Heights. Under Israeli Government since 1967. Local Council since 1982. Population: 8400 (2003) all Druze. Majdal Shams is the highest community in Israel situated on the sloops of Mount Hermon. It was established in the 18th century and played a major role in the Druze revolt against the French in 1925, and subsequently was destroyed in 1926.
