The flag of Ranchuelo was approved as official on 30 September 2000 and first hoisted on 1 October, the 266th anniversary of Ranchuelo's founding. Green represents the greenery of agricultural and sugarcane fields. The white lines pointing to the four cardinal directions represent purity and desire for peace in all directions. They form four green rectangles, which represent the four towns which merged into the municipality in 1976: Ranchuelo, Esperanza, Jicotea, and San Juan de los Yeras. The shield in the center is the element of union and strength from the rest of the elements which form the flag.

Designed by plastic artist Sara Solís Sánchez in 1992. The upper field depicts the sugarcane industry, the main economic activity in the municipality. In the lower field, the three quarters represent the three municipalities which merged into Ranchuelo. The central building represents the "Ramiro Lavandero Cruz" cigar company, created in the '20s where many union struggles happened. To the right is the Callejas fort, found in San Juan de los Yeras, and is representative of the guerrilla struggle against the colonial authorities. The left quadrant represents the wells located in Esperanza, which served the local population since colonial times. A bundle of sticks supports the shield, being united in the upper and lower sections as a representation of all members of the area being integrated into one municipality today. To the sides are sugarcane plants. At the top is a ribbon bearing the words "MUNICIPIO RANCHUELO".
